I cant get my report to fit on one page

The report is profile inpage set up

I have reset the margins to 1/2 " in page set up

The first page of the report goes to two pages, with just a little of the
shading but none of the data or headings on the second page

How wide is the report (i.e.: the Width property of the Report object). If
it's greater than 7 1/2" (assuming your paper is 8 1/2" wide), you need to
make it narrower.

didnt know what it was til now but
when i try to change it it just pops back to what it was

That implies you've got something (possibly a line) that extends too far to
the right.

why do i get the first header group shown as blank, there isnt any blank data
in the
database?

I dont know what you mean by associated... data in the detail section that
also appears in the header?

Presumably you've got

Header 1
detail for header 1
detail for header 1
detail for header 1
Header 2
detail for header 2
detail for header 2
Header 3

and so on.

Is there a detail section associated with the empty header?

If so, that implies that there are rows with blank for whatever field(s)
make up the header.

my report headings dont print except on the first page, there is no detail
under that first header... i tried to put in a page break where one of the
headers was but it was sloppy, i mean it worked sorta, i found the page break
descriptions in reports in access almost incomprehensible

What I got was this:

Page heading

Header 1
No Detail

Header 2 (on new page when i inserted a page break here) NO PAGE HEADING
Detail
Detail
Detail

Header 3 (on new page when i inserted a page break here) NO PAGE HEADING
Detail
Detail

really appreciate your help here

What have you set as the "ForceNewPage" property for the Header? (select the
header, and look at its properties) I'm guessing you have it set to "Before
Section"

You sure you've got a Page Header defined, and not a Report Header? Report
Headers only appear once in the report: Page Headers should appear on each
page.

i removed the page break cause it looked too sloppy
but anyway now it says force new page -- none
ok on the page header didnt know it only appeared one time
i have a report header, and under page header i just closed up the space, so
can i put what i had in report header into page header? i really need it on
each page
i am sorry my use of MS terms is so limited

I need some control breaks ( page breaks) in this report... you have helped
me alot with it, what is the best way to get familiar with the access way of
doing page breaks. Most everything else is pretty much the way I wanted it.

I tried the force break before and on one control it works but not all and I
still have that ugly empty detail on first header.

Can I make a page break on changes in data in the detail section?

What I often do is create a footer, even if there's nothing to put in it,
and use it to force page breaks.

Douglas, I've read this and other threads and still can't find my problem.
I'm struggling with a form but the concept seems to be the same. I get the
"section width ..." error. I have the form width at 7.2" and I can't find
anything outside that area. When I print the form, there is over 1" of blank
right margin. Another thread suggested setting the docmd.setwarnings to
False. That would stop the warning, but would I still get the blank pages?
I'm stumped! Thanks
