If any message can't be moved or deleted, apply this Microsoft fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090

Although that article only mentions Outbox, it works for all mail folders.

Incidentally, that fix was also included in Vista's SP1, so if you haven't
installed that, you are way overdue.

Everything was working fine in Windows mail until SP2 for Vista downloaded
onto my PC. Now I too can no longer empty my 'deleted' folder.

If I try and install the listed fix (941090), it says I already have it.

So now what should I do to get this working again?

If you have SP1, the hotfix is already installed.

Get WMUtil from http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/Default.aspx

Read the instructions.

Run WMUtil with WM closed

WMUtil should do the job for you?

Tried it, and still no go. I am not running any third party
firewall/antivirus, I am using OneCare.

Apparently this has been a problem for nearly a month as I thought messages
were deleting when I closed WIndows Mail, but they remained. I am able to
delte one at a time, but that is tedious with over 400 e-mails in there.
Right clicking the deleted folders and the selecte the 'Emoty Deleted Folder"
option does nothing.

I'm frustrated with this one. And seeing this is a long standing problem
based on the dates of complaints ging back 2 years I can't say I am
encouraged getting this repaired soon.

Any other ideas?

Well, it's fixed. I went through all the setting and where 'restore default'
was available, I chose that. Rebooted and voila. Now it works. When I exit
windows mail, the deleted folder now gets emptied. Again, don't know exactly
what changed so it remains a mystery to me.
