I can't create a "New File Share" on XP Home

M

Mark

I'm trying to create a new file share under
XP's Computer Management utility. (I'm using
XP Home and I'm logged on as the administrator.)

The help files on my computer tell me to go to:

Computer Management
-Systems Tools
--Shared Folders
---Shares

....and then choose "New File Share" from the ACTION
menu. Unfortunately, the "New File Share" option
is not offered on my ACTION menu. This screen shot
shows exactly what I mean:

On the other hand, if you look at the second screen
shot on this Gateway help page, you'll see that
the "New File Share" option is present:

http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/MICROSOF/7509594/FAQ/750959402.shtml

Does any of you know why this option doesn't
show up on my computer's ACTION menu?

How could I fix the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Windows XP Home Edition doesn't have the "New File Share" option,
Mark. It only exists on Windows XP Professional, and only when simple
file sharing is disabled.

To create a new file share, navigate to the desired disk or folder in
My Computer or Windows Explorer, right-click it, and click Sharing and
Security.
