I cannot publish my website to my remote server?

G

Guest

I created a new website in FP2003. I then hit Open Site and all my foldes
appear. I hit Publish Site, then hit first choice which is FP or Shared
Services. I then type in my remote site and each time get the error which
states "Can not find a web server at the "thexxxxfamily.com" on Port 80.
Check to make sure web server is valid and proxy settings are correct." I
contacted my host provider and they said all extension are in place and they
were able to publish onto my site (which I guess is how they test the site).
I then called to tell them I still could not get it to work. They seem to
think there is an error with something I am doing in FP. I have been working
at this night and day and have no idea what I am doing wrong. I really need
some SIMPLIFIED help! Thanks so much.

Are you entering http://www.domainname.com and does the remote server have the FP extensions?

I did type in exactly how what you wrote below only substituting of course
our actual domain name. Ready hosting is my provider and they said all the FP
extensions are there, but of course I don't know how to verify this. I just
talked to them earlier today and that is when they told me they could publish
to my site therefore verifying extensions were in place. Do I need to do
anything on my end in FP?

What's the URL for the site?

Just Browse to the URL or your site in IE and try Edit w/ FP
- you should get a user name / password prompt to log in and the site should open in FP

Once you have the site open in FP you can reverse publish (from your PC = remote, to your Online = local)
See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP010499201033.aspx

For more info on publishing see

Stefan,
I just tried this also and got the same error regarding the port. I feel
like it may be a problem with the internet settings on FP since it is not
even connecting between FP and the sites. I have tried so many things that I
am open to any suggestions. We did add a wireless router back in February,
but I unplugged it completely and tried publishing that way also. I know
this is just a web site, but I am feeling pretty hopeless about this. Any
more guidance will be well appreciated.

www.thekahlerfamily.com. When I try to publish I get the message so fast, I
believe it is something to do with the internet connection between my site
and FP. I think it may be something in the settings, but have no idea what.
Thanks for the assistance.

I know what the Firewall does, but I am not sure what this below means SP 2
Security? I went to the control panel and it said we had no firewalls up, but
under the Exceptions tab a bunch of stuff had checks next to them, but
nothing that stated SP2? Any more info on this.

Thanks

Okay, I found this and it is SP2 so what do I do now? I still could not find
it anywhere on the Firewall info. I turned off all firewalls including
MacAfee and tried it again and it still does not work; same thing with the
Port 80 error! Do I do anything under internet settings or Firewall
connections under the Control Panel? Am I the only one with this problem???
Its killing me not to get this published!
