I cannot open or edit or delete some registry keys

In order to solve an issue with System Restore in Windows XP I tried to check
sevearl Registry Keys. There are 2 keys that I cannot open:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htc
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.htc
When I try to open them to check their content I get a error message "Cannot
Open".
So I tried to delete them in order to create new ones. But I get the same
message. This is only in my profile. In other users'profiles on the same
computer I can access these keys without problem
Has anybody an idea about what is happening and how I can solve this issue?

Do a right click on the key and see what the permissions are. If
necessary, log on as the administrator and change the permissions for
the problem keys or entries.
