Hyperlinks to JPG files

When you add a link into an item in a MS-Access Database, if you then go into
view/edit of that item and click on the link, it doesn’t always show the
document.

For example, I have Microsoft Office Picture Manager as my default
application for all .JPG files, but when I click on the link it runs MOPM but
just shows a list of the last used directory used in MOPM.

So, I changed my default application for JPG files to Windows Picture and
Fax Viewer, and that did nothing when I clicked on the link.

However, setting my default to Internet Explorer the .JPG was correctly
displayed.

Arvin,

Many thanks for the details - however, I don't want to do anything "fancy"
in MS-ACCESS, all I want is to insert a Hyperlink into a field, and when that
hyperlink is clicked on, and it's a JPG, I want the JPG to be displayed. I
don't want the picture imbedded in the Access Database.

If you go into MS-EXCEL, and enter a hyperlink into a cell, click on it and
it will display that JPG using your chosen application associated with that
file type. MS-ACCESS does not seem to follow the same rule!

Any ideas?

The problem is tht the default hyperlink protocol behavior in Access is
http. Both of the methods I outlined for you use outside images which are
not stored in the database. The first stores the path to the image and opens
the image in an image control within Access. It is far more efficient than a
hyperlink. The second also stores the path, but shells out to the associated
program to view the image. It too is more efficient than a hyperlink.
