hyperlink to custom shows

Using Autostart CD Project Creator and PP2002 I was able
to create autostart presentations that allowed the end
user to navigate through the presentation using
hyperlinks. I'm now using PP 2003 and it appears that
this version does not support hyperlinks. Am I doing
something wrong?? YOur advice please.

Are you using the Package for CD feature? What type of hyperlinks are we
talking about? In other words, how did you create them and what are you
linking to? Do they work in PowerPoint 2003, or are you saying they don't
work in the Viewer, or both?

Hi Sonia, I have created a slide show presentation and
used Action Buttons and Action Setting to allow the end
user to view custom shows within the presentation. When
I use the Package for CD feature the Action buttons are
present but the action setting is not activated.

Before using Package for CD, I viewed the presentation as
a slide show and the action settings were working.

I hope this is a little clearer.

It works here, Kathy, so there must be something different in the way I am
testing it.

I have a presentation with 12 slides. I created a Custom show by going to
Slide Show > Custom Shows > New and selected a few slides (6 & 7) within my
presentation and named it Custom Show 1. Then on Slide 1 I created a
rectangle and with it selected I went to Slide Show > Action Settings >
Hyperlink To and selected Custom Show from the list. Then I selected Custom
Show 1 from the "Link to Custom Show" dialog. I ran Package for CD and used
the Package to Folder option, including the Viewer. When completed I ran
the Play.bat file that Package for CD created. That's a useful file for
testing your package before burning to CD. My action button/rectangle works
fine and when I click on it, the Viewer jumps to Slide 6.

Do you see anything in my steps that differs from what you did?

Did you burn the package to CD or did you use the Package to Folder option?
Either way, can you open PowerPoint 2003 and then open the presentation from
the CD or from the folder and check the link for your button? Is it still
set to hyperlink to the Custom show?

I haven't been following this thread, really, but I'll toss this out
anyway -- Wasn't there something in the PPT 97 Viewer which trashed the
links on grouped objects? I guess that's probably a red herring, though,
as Package for CD would use the new 2003 Viewer, right?

It doesn't trash 'em, but it doesn't see 'em either.
Whether that's a herring of another color ... remains to be seen.

Thanks Sonia, I checked against your steps for creatng the actio
settings and I can see no difference.

I saved the presentation to Package to Folder and used the Play.ba
file as you suggested and the action buttons still do not work.

When I view the presentation in full screen mode the action setting
are present. After I package it for CD and view it through the play.ba
file the actions buttons are there but the action settings hav
disappeared,ie no hand showing over the button.

I've done hundreds of autostart, custom show, hyperlink presentation
using 2002 and your CD Autostart Project Creator. This has me stumped

When you PowerPoint and then open the copy of the presentation from your
"packaged" folder, what do you see when you select one of your action
buttons and go to Action Settings? Is the Hyperlink set?

Can you send me just that slide, but from the original presentation file?
I'll take a look at it to see whether I can spot anything. You can send it
to sonia @ soniacoleman . com (without the spaces).

Hi Kathy,

Are your "Action Buttons" filled or unfilled?

If they're unfilled shapes then you are running into a known problem with
the PowerPoint Viewer 2003.

Basically, for unfilled shapes, the "hot spot" for initiating the action
setting associated with the shape is very small and hard to find.

The workaround is to only use filled shapes for action settings if you are
going to be using PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to show the presentation.
