Hyperlink and Sort Problems

Each row of my spreadsheet has a hyperlink to jpg files on the D drive. While all was working fine, I now find that data sort and edit hyperlink are no longer available options for the file. In addition, there is "[group]" following the file name on the title bar and I've had no success in finding the way to remove it.
I don't know what I may have done to create the problem - prior to this, I was following the procedures from Macro 101 in a new workbook.

I would suggest that you exit out of your spreadsheet without
saving it. The Group on the Title Bar means you have grouped
sheets and any change to you make to the sheet you see will
be made to the other sheets as well that are grouped.

To group sheets, Ctrl+ select another sheet(s)

To ungroup sheets, right-click on a sheet tab, and choose
ungroup sheets.

Bet you wished you didn't post anonymously because I would
have send an email at the same time in the hope that
you may not have hurt your dataset yet.

Another option instead of exiting out of Excel without saving might
be to use File, Save As to save it as another file to give you
two workbooks to look at while you assess the damage.

Grouping sheets will gray out some options like sorting (Data, Sort)
explaining your trouble with sorting.

If your spreadsheets have been damaged by grouping sheets and
making changes, you may have to restore
from a backup, you will have to check for damage.

Many thanks for the reply! I had closed the file prior to my post. However, following your instruction for ungroup worked and I can again edit and sort - maybe because I had no data on any other sheets?? Understanding groups seems to be beyond my current level in Excel
I posted anonymously out of concern for spam, but looking at the site tonight it appears that addresses could not be easily harvested..
Thanks again for the help; it certainly saved me a great deal of work.

Grouping sheets allows you to do the same thing to the other sheets in
the group when you enter a value or a formula into a cell. It can be very
powerful and you can do things that you might otherwise use a macro for.
But for the same reason that it can save you time it can destroy your data
very quickly and you may not even be aware that you still have sheets grouped
so you might not notice the damage immediately.

Harvesting email addresses from newsgroups and from websites is
very common and very easy, and munged addresses are no problem
for spammers. But I refuse to capitulate to those that spam and those
that try to destroy things. So I use whatever my ISP will provide as
spam protection as my first line of defense then use my own filters.

I read my email and newsgroups with Outlook Express and have
mail and newsgroup rules in effect to further cut down on spam.

Would suggest that you get spam protection in place before switching
to using a valid email address, but I think if I did not use a real email address
it would be too cold and impartial for me instead of a friendly group
of people.
