Hyperlink and Field Codes

I have searched the forum, but haven't found the response. So my apoloigies
if this is a duplicate Q.

I recently upgraded to Windows 2003. I have noticed this pattern few times.

I work in large documents and open and update few times a day. I have
noticed that the field codes appear out of nowhere (i..e with hyperlinks/URLs
ro e-mail address; or in the table of contents).

I went into Tools/Options/Print/Deselected Print fields (so it is blank).
And that field was not selected.

Yesterday I tried to bring out Word by going into Start/Run/winword.exe /a.
And it this problem took care of itself.

Now, all of a sudden, I'm seeing the pattern again - hyperlinks and fields
appear. I also did see the fix of Shift + F9, however, it changes my url
links to text and I want those to be linked ojbects.

{TOC\o."1-3".\h\z\u} - this is the type codes appear in my TOC.

Hi rp2chil,

The correct way to hide all field codes is:
Alt-F9, or Tools|Options|View and UNcheck 'field codes'.

Cheers
