Hyper-threading

I just completed building a new system utilizing an Intel
3.06 CPU w/ 533 mhz FSB and Hyperthreading. I have been
noticing that Windows XP Home continues to reboot after
running for a short time with the hyperthreading enabled.
I have the drivers installed and it indicates "this device
functioning normally" in device manager. I have been told
that XP Home does not support the new hyperthreading
technology. Is this true and will upgrading to XP Pro
solve the problem. I have hyperthreading currently
disabled and the system now seems stable. Could use some
help. Thanks.

Hi Michael

XP Home *does* support hyper-threading, so that is not the direct cause of
your system instability.

First thought is to check your mainboard manufacturers website for a
possible system BIOS update. Although some info on your hardware will give
a better chance of someone providing a solution.

Hope that helps
Pete

You have been told incorrect information. Both XP Home and XP Pro support
hyper-threading. Additional info on that can be found at:

I don't know if these are relevant for you, I ran accross them while
looking up the previous article:

Hi,
I'm running XP Home on an Intel 865PERL board with Hyper Threading
enabled.....no difficulties. I agree with the post earlier in this thread
that you should check for the latest bios update for you mobo.
