Hi,
Just had pop up message saying that system registry space is low and that
it is at its maximun size of 128M. I have this sinking feeling that my
system ain't gonna boot successfully soon. Are there ant registry clean up
tools for XP? And what could be consuming so much system space?

Regards,
Andrew

There are, but they should be used with caution.

This cleaner creates an UNDO file, which can be restored in case of
problems. But should XP not boot, the measures required to restore the
file might exceed the abilities of many users.

I recommend using iolo's System Mechanic. It's a great
utility that presents both a simple interface and a lot of
power behind the scenes.

There's a way to do it within WinXP itself but System
Mechanic offers so much more functionality.

What is the "way to do it within Windows itself"?

The only way in 'Windows itself' is by regedit. If you know what you want to
delete you can search the registry and delete it. However it does leave many
orphans. (Unused items).

There are 2 utilities that I use with great sucess and I like them very much

The first on is called RegSeeker, it is a free download that I found from watching TechTV

http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.ht

The Second one is called Ace Utilities. It has a free 30 day trial period but costs about 30 bucks. I like that one too, and it can't hurt to download it and try it.(Also found out about this one from TechTV)

Hope that this is helpful to you.

Hi,

Thank you all for your suggestions. I found that System Mechanic 4 did a
perfect job of reducing the size from 128M to 4M. Now I feel a bit *secure*.
