HTTP/1.1 404 Object Not Found

B

Blaine Hamrick

I have had the following problem since I installed SP2, ran into trouble
with it, exhausted technical support, then uninstalled it. On certain web
pages, including www.msn.com, graphics with links to other pages do not
appear, but the error, "HTTP/1.1 404 Object Not Found" is displayed.

For what its worth I have another computer running IE 6 and a simple program
(Ad-Subtract) which blocks the display of advertisement related links, and
the exact ads are the ones which give me the error on this computer. (I do
not have any ad blocking software on this computer.)

My IE6 version is 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.040919-1003. Although this version
information seems to indicate that I have SP2 installed, I do not.

If there's any way to uninstall and reinstall Internet explorer, I would be
willing to give that a try. I am also comfortable editing the registry if
needed.

Thank you!

Hi Blaine :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

If you have Zone Alarm Pro, it can block Images in IE

1. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level>reset custom
level to Medium or Low
2. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>set the slider to Medium or Low
3. Go to this site and read on adjusting the Privacy settings in ZA. It will
explain how to customize on a per site basis.

Hi Blaine :)

It is also possible that SP2 has uncovered some spyware or malware that was
undetected before, therefore, you might also do the following before
reinstalling SP2:
