HTML NASTY BUG !!!!

Hi Everybody,
WARNING !!! LOOK OUT !!!! IT'S A NASTY BUG
1. Some time ago, I installed Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. It comes
straight from Microsoft just like Windows.
2. There is a setting which should be local to Visual C#. It's
under Tools > Options > Environment > Help >Show Help Using > Pull down
list.
All is well if you choose "Integrated Help Viewer". If you choose the
other option, HTML is dead in the water for all applications. An HTM file
can no longer be opened by Internet Explorer. Apparently, Microsoft
inadvertently made that an intergalactic setting.

I could not replicate your issue. Everything worked as supposed to. Check your
install because it seems to be incorrect

I can't reproduce the problem, as reported.

I made a new installation of 32 bit Vista Business edition with SP2.

Then I downloaded and installed Visual Studio 2008 C# SP1; along with
SQL Server Express edition and Microsoft Silverlight.

I built a "Hello world" console app, to make sure VS was all installed
and working.

When I look under tools, Options, Environment, there are NO Help options
at all.

If I run VS Help from the menu bar, the Document Explorer is run. In
Document Explorer, Tools, Options, Environment, there *is* a Help
section, but "Show Help using" is set to External Viewer and greyed out;
it can't be changed.

On my main PC, I have VS 2008 Professional edition installed, and it
*does* have the Help Option listed under tools, Options Environment. But
the default is External Help Viewer and I haven't had any issues with
HTM files.

You are undoubtedly seeing some kind of problem; but it is not the
necessary or universal result of running VS 2008 express edition. You
might need to do some more problem determination, to isolate why it
isn't working in your environment, when it does apparently work okay in
some other, perhaps most, environments.
