HTML emails display as plain text, cannot be changed back

I receive emails as plain text when they were sent to me in HTML. The
'Format' menu options are greyed out, with the 'Plain Text' option ticked. I
do not prevent pictures being displayed. What do I need to change in order
for emails to be displayed correctly?

Have yout got an anti-virus prg. on your computer?

I have the NOD32 (www.nod32.com) and in this program
you can find a funktion to convert html mails to text mails.

The greyed out problem:

If you open a E-Mail, you must klick on the edit Menu
and in the next step on edit message. Now you can edit
the format menu.
