html conversion to asp

My Front Page Web site is old and uses html extensions. Can I make the
extenions .asp instead? The server the site will be hosted at supports FP03
extensions and asp. But, I don't know if asp supports shared borders/themes,
or if in making the conversion all I have to do is modify to a dynamic web
template and then make the pages .asp?

Is there a simple answer?

Unless you are using server-side scripts, there is no reason
to change to an asp extension.

Thank you.

I should elaborate a bit becasue the site uses the bCentral Commerce
Manager/eCommerce wizard to generate its catalog pages. The shopping cart
clears all transactions via asp.

I have written to bCentral and I will post their reponse here in order to
clarify my question. I want to find out if the Front Page bCentral eCommerce
wizard is asp compatible. Right now, it generates all pages as htm, I want to
know how it will behave in the asp environment.

(A long story.... When I built the product database in Commerce Manager, and
then published the CM pages to the html web I found that the asp shopping
cart buttons would not function from their individual catalog page. I was
slightly confused at first.

I called MS support. The answer was to paste the HTML shopping cart buttons
(from the html product list menu) over the asp buttons. In doing so, I was
then able to make new web pages, using the newly made individual database
driven catalog pages for each product item. This enables an easy war to use
the larger images and the full descriptions.) Here's a link to the CM catalog
page> http://www.yarnstodyefor.com/catalog/index.htm

That catalog is generated using the wizard integrated with Front Page, and
the catalog is created and published through Front Page.

It would take a few go rounds to see where I made web pages from the catalog
pages, and then to see how HTML buttons are required, is a whole other apsect.

In short, you'll see that the Web site is pure Front Page top to bottom.
Themes, shared borders, and so on.

The next question is how do I replace the shared borders with DWT's?

When I receive a reply from bCentral I'll post it and in the meantime I'll
check out the asp includes site. I hope to find out more in regard to making
use of DWT's in the process as well.

Thank you much.

I like using the forum here when I'm in doubt because, eventually I can find
a best answer. Having written out the problem, I can understand where my
question is flawed to begin with. I should keep the HTML pages as they are,
and use pages or scripts that require ASP support to work within the HTML
pages.

That means I could learn more about using ASP sub-routines to perform
operations that the HTML acccessories FP uses for the table of contents and
search engine function could be made to work in real time instead of having
to rebuild them each time the database is updated.

So now the question is what asp routines are easily integrated to perform
the Table of Contents function and Search Engine function as well as other
active relational operations?

More later.

You can't "convert" HTML to ASP - you have to write the ASP code (a moderate
learning curve for those without programming experience).

I suppose there's no harm saving an html page with an *.asp extension - go
to File menu, and Save As, and resave the file with the asp extension.
However there's no real point to this action unless you actually indtend to
use ASP code in your pages. (Do you intend to do this - use database and
other features that utilise ASP?)

HTML is still the standard for the web where static pages are used.

As a beginner to ASP you can try the FP Database Results Wizard to display data from your DB
But IMHO you are better of learning ASP if you are going to use it at all
See http://www.w3schools.com/asp/default.asp and http://www.w3schools.com/ado/default.asp or for some examples see
