htaccess file in web ?

Bob

I need to have a file named .htaccess in the root directory on a web.
I would like to keep it in the web site in FP so that I don't have to
track it separately. But, Front Page won't let me import the file or
create/rename a file to that name.

Any ideas?

Thanks

..htaccess is an Apache / UNIX file and as such is not recognized by
FrontPage.
( it is alos left alone by FrontPage when publishing to an Apache / UNIX
server )
Management / editing of an .htaccess file is done live on the server via
the web masters control panel.

Well... seems funny since FP supports these servers... and I'm not
asking it to guide me - I just want to put it in the folder for
publishing. But I can accept the limitation.

Thanks

..htaccess files are recognised and used by the Unix version of
FrontPage Extensions.
The files are recognised and effectively, completely ignored by the
FrontPage client. Any .htaccess file in a website will be hidden by
the FP client, and cannot be edited or otherwise manipulated
(including publishing) by FrontPage.

Hmmm... yes... further research has found that FP creates an .htaccess
file in the root directory (I think when the extensions are installed,
but I did not watch closely). I'm sure it would have a problem merging
a local file with the remote file.
