I'm still using my HP deskjet 6122. It has the nasty characteristic of
blackballig cartrides I have refilled after some useage. I've tried the
3-swap routine, but still, most such catridges eventually become all
blackballed (unit refuses to acknowlege it as a valid cartridge). I've
also tried taping over some contacts as prescribed a year or two ago,
but that does not work here. Also, at times a blackballed cartridge,
after being retired for a few months, becomes recognizable again. No
rhyme or reason...

Any recent discoveries or recommendations?

If you do not want blackballig carts then you need to use the correct ink
that HP recommends for the printer.
