I'm going thru Fax hell .. and is the following true ? I've tried every
combo you can imagine ..and still can't get it right ..and just now read
this. Can someone with the exact model as I've got tell me.. how on
earth the use the answer machine (set at 3 rings) and the fax (set at 6
rings) to always work >? Just now read this..that you have to have your
answer machine plugged directly into the printer ...AWK is that correct
?

the HP PSC is not
answering incoming calls

cause
The answering machine is on the same line.

solution

If you have a telephone answering machine on the same line as your HP
PSC, you must connect the answering machine to the port on the back of
the HP PSC.
You may need to change the number of rings to make sure the answering
machine answers first. Set the HP PSC to a higher number than your
answering machine

Try leaving your question in the comp.sys.hp.hardware newsgroup
as you will get a better answer.

That would appear to work -- the answering machine picks up, the fax
"listens in" when the line goes live, and, um, gets the fax, I guess,
but then, won't the answering machine record an audio version of the
fax? Ichy.

Thanks, please just cross-post it here if you do. I haven't bought it
yet, but I think you already gave the right answer. I just wonder if
any answering machines are smart enough to hang up when they hear a
fax, I know mine isn't!
