HP Scanner 4300C

Gerry Cornell

Dual booting Vista and Windows XP. I cannot use the scanner in Vista
because there is and there will not be a suitable driver for the
device. The scanner works fine in Windows XP.

My problem is that Vista is like a dog with a bone. It constantly
reminds me about the driver issue and the system sees it as a
performance issue. I need to leave the scanner physically connected
to the computer. How do I stop Vista seeing the scanner or get it to
ignore it's existence?

HP said that about my 3970 scanner and then came out with a driver. But I
checked and yours still has the no driver message. Why do you need to keep
the scanner connected if it doesn't work? Does it show up in Hardware Device
Mgr--even as Unknown Device? If it does, you should disable it there so that
Vista ignores it.

I executed your suggestion last night. Thanks for the push.
