HP Photosmart 2610 on remote dekstop

I have a HP Photosmart 2610 connected to my home network - works no
problems. However, when I connect to a remote dekstop at my workplace,
I want to be able to print to the Photosmart.

Unlike my Epson printer, which automatically gets mapped, the
Photosmart does not. Looking in the event viewer of the remote PC, it
errors that the printer driver is not available.

I have downloaded the HP drivers, and attempted to install on the
remote PC, but it won't complete until it is actually able to
communicate with the printer locally - so no drivers get installed.

HP support (somewhere in India I think) where unable to help.

I have attempted registry changes suggested in other forums related
changing the filer on the port. I have also changed port names. The
only other thing I can think of is to take the printer to work with me
- bit silly really.

Does anyone have any ideas. All we need is the drivers to be installed,
and it will work... Wasn't the idea with RDP that the drivers should
automatically pull down from the PD sharing the printer?

Any ideas would be great

Thanks

Zyg,

No answer. Only the same problem. I can't find a way to install an HP
printer without a physical connection. I plan to bring my printer to work on
Monday and check it out. I'll get back to you.

Tried that as well on Friday last week, and it now works.... Had funny
looks from various people however, walking out of the office with IT
equipment!

Unfortunately, my PC at work has now decided to go belly up, and it
looks as though I will have to take the printer back in again when the
replacement is up an running!

If HP weren't trying to be so clever bundling all drivers together, and
just issued a set of drivers for use in this scenario, life would be so
much easier!

Zyg,

I tried installing HP drivers on server PC. It works - now I can print to
the same printer when it is connected to the client.

It's worth noting that this is the only time I was required to physically
connect the printer to the server in order to install its drivers. I have
done this with other printers with no problem. Sure I had to install the
drivers, but at least I didn't need to shlepp the printer into work. What a
hassle!!
