The printer wont respond to any command. It is brand new and operating
on windows 7.
The on/off switch has no effect, it just stays on till the plug is
pulled. Then the next time
it is turned on it dows the same thing. Question is, is there a method
to reset the nardware
in some way. Any help would be appreciated.

The fact that it won't turn off from the power switch sounds like it's
hardware related rather than software. If you were to plug it in and turn it
on and then attempt to turn it off without any attempt to give it any
commands from the computer again would it turn off ?

Consider getting in touch with HP tech support. It seems that if the printer
is new that HP would have a phone number you could call gratis to get some
quick help here.

If you disconnect it from the computer is there a way to print a test
page? (Check instructions) If so, try to and see if it acts
correctly. If so, the problem *may* be corrupt drivers. I would try
uninstalling the driver files and then reinstall. Make sure you follow
the exact procedure suggested my HP, in terms of sequence, as to when
you load drivers versus when you physically attach the printer to the
printer. This is particularly important with USB connected printers.

A reset procedure for the firmware should be indicated in the manual if
it can be user accomplished.
