HP Deskjet 952c won't calibrate

R

Ron Marraccini

Folks,

I installed a new HP black cartridge and the device will not calibrate
itself as it used to.
I tried doing it manually w/same results: The head assembly moves to the
left, grabs a sheet of paper, the blue light comes on, and then it kicks the
paper out.

I have tried turning it off, disconnecting both usb & power cords,
uninstalling and re-installing the software and using a different cartridge.

Although it still prints - it just won't calibrate.

Ideas anyone?

Thanks

The sensor for the automatic alignment has a small plastic lens. If
this has become dislodged the alignment will fail. Sometimes this can
be dislodged by a paper jam or other physical trauma. If the lens has
become dislodged and you can locate it you should be able to reattach it
to the sensor.

shows the sensor. If the plastic lens is missing you can order the
sensor from:

Bob - Thanks!

I took off the sensor and found that it looks like the lens may have been a
small rectangular piece held in place by two downward facing small pins -
Would this be correct?

The diagram doesn't show the lens so I am just guessing at the lens's shape.

If so - time for a new sensor as it's gone.

Yes, that is the one. The lens assembly is about 1/2" x 1/4".

You might take a close look in the printer. I have heard of cases where
the sensor came off in the service station area and can be retrieved
from the goo at the bottom of the service station (on the right hand
side, where the cartridges are parked).

I found the HP was out of the part but I found a supplier who didn't charge
an arm & a leg for the replacement like some of the others I found.

HP would have charged 15.00 for the part + about 9.00 shipping
2 of the others suppliers were charging upwards of 50.00 for the part and
20.00 for shipping!

partshere.com - has a huge HP inventory - had it for 29.00 shipped.
(ordered Tues - shipped today)

Go figure.

Thanks for the advice re; the parts schematic & links to HP parts.
