HP 5000DN PCL 6 printing problems

Hello,

I'm hoping for some help with printing problems with my HP500DN
(printing via Jet Direct 600 card) using the PCL 6 driver (latest from HP).

When printing with this driver (but not the PS driver) on some programs
(most notably Acrobat, AutoCAD and CAM350) I get garbage fonts (text
prints like Windigs), and the right 1/8 of the paper does not print. I
also get some scrambled graphics. I see no problems when I print with
the HP PS driver. I would rather use the PCL driver as it has features
the PS driver does not that I use. The font and graphics issue happens
with all paper sizes but the missing 1/8 only seem to happen when I
print to 11x17 paper. If I reinstall the driver it fixes the problem
until I reboot either the computer or printer.

Any ideas?
Thanx

Check the HP web site and see if there is a PCL 5 driver for this printer, if
so try that. There have been some issues in the past with PCL 6 drivers for
some HP printers and HP advised using PCL 5.

Thanx Tony.

I downloaded the PCL 5e driver and it does not seem to have the problems
the PCL 6 driver had (or a page that looks bad when printed with the 6
looks fine with 5e).

Is this a driver issue or a printer issue (in that PCL 6 is not
compatible with this older printer)? Since HP has a PCL6 driver for it I
would assume this is a driver issue. Somehow "use an older driver" is
not an acceptable solution - but for now it works and has more features
than the PS driver so thanx.

Now if I could just figure out why my printer duplexer jams with 11x17
paper and not 8.5". Perhaps another thread.

I really don't know why PCL 6 and this printer have a problem only that HP have
recommended this course of action.
The duplexer is a fairly simple piece of equipment, likely cause for it to jam
with larger size paper is either worn or perished rollers or something stuck in
the paper path.
