HP 3420 and 5650

I have a HP DESKJET 3420 with latest drivers from HP and
when I send a test page/print job I receive a
mechanism/mechanical error. The printer was working fine
until recently. I purchased a brand new HP DESKJET 5650
and I installed printer with the latest printer drivers
downloaded form HP with the same results. I even tried the
drivers from XP to no avail. I have all the latest XP
security patches and Norton virus definitions.

Any suggestions???

At first I didn't uninstall the 3420. I completely
uninstalled both printers/disconnected from the pc,
restarted the pc, installed the software(latest from
HP)waited for the pc to ask to connect printer. I received
no error messages and the install seemed OK. Went to print
a test page and I received the same error messages again.

Not sure what is wrong here????
