Howto setup Internet Explorer for all users

Hello,

i would like to know how I can set _some_ settings of the Internet Explorer
for __all__ users on the terminal server. these settings would be
(translated from german):

Extras/General:
Limit of Temporary Internet Files should be 2 MB
(and/or: set the folder for Temporary Internet Files to d:\InternetFiles)

Extras/Options/Extended:
Multimedia/Sound should be disabled
Multimedia/Videos should be disabeled
Security/SSL webpages should not be saved on disk
Search/Do not search in Address bar

I could not find anything suitable in ADM-files that were on www.thinnet.com

I disabled all the Tabs that are in Extras/InternetOptions (except cookies)
for the users, but I don't know how to set the settings that are now hidden
so that they are applied to all users. Or the other way around, how do you
setup the Internet Explorer 6 on a W2k-Terminal Server?

Best regards

arno

Hello Vera,
The easiest way to set default settings for the users is directly
after you install a program: start the program as administrator,
*while you are still in install mode* and make the changes that
you want.

Too late now...
You can still use this method. Any changes that you make in
install mode will be written to the "shadow area" in the registry.
The next time users log on, they will get the updated settings,
since the timestamp on the shadow area is newer than their own
profile (if you have made sure to change the settings when no user
was logged in).

This did not work. Nobody was logged in. I changed the size of temp.
internet files but it was not applied to users.

This is by far too complicated, and I do not know which registry-keys to put
there. I think, this is the reason why there are no good adm-files around.

For some other reason I will have to delete all the user profiles (not the
users), will i then have a chance to set my default settings?

Best regards

Why don't you check into using the IE admin kit, which has
custom adm file already created for this purpose.

Also, group policies should be able to control much of the
way IE works.
