Howto remove old mainboard registry informations after upgrading the mainboard

Chris

Hi,

I just upgraded my old ASUS P4S8X mainboard with a new
P4C800-E Deluxe and faced some problems with this as I
carried my OS over to the new MB.

The bundled WinDVD Suite refuses to install stating that
the mainboard installed is not the new P4C800-E Deluxe. I
contacted ASUS and they told me it's in the Microsoft
registry keys ...

Does anyone know how (well, the responsible keys ;-) to
remove the old Mainboard informations left in the
registry? I removed all previous MB Drivers and also all
P4S8X related registry entries (as far as identifiable by
containing the text P4S8X ...)

Any help is highly appreciated, as reinstalling my system
would cost me several days ...

Thanks
Chris

Greetings --

Normally, assuming a retail license, unless the new motherboard is
virtually identical to the old one (same chipset, same IDE
controllers, same BIOS version, etc.), you'll need to perform a repair
(a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at the very least:

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will probably also require re-activation. If it's been more
than 120 days since you last activated that specific Product Key,
you'll most likely be able to activate via the internet without
problem. If it's been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone
call.
