How to view contacts with only a single category?

I have a large public folder with contact information. I need to filter or
view only contacts assigned to a specific category. If i filter or view by
category it shows me all records that are assigned to the specific category
and others. I need just those records that are assigned a single category
and no others.

We use categories to tag who the contact belongs to. Some contacts get
tagged to more than one user so that they have access to the contacts under
their category view. I need to delete contacts that are only assigned to a
single user but have no idea how I can do that?

One way is to customize the View, look at the Filter Option and then "More
Choices" and type the Category against the Category field
When you say tagged do you mean that you have linked a Contact to another
Contact by using the Contact button at the bottom left of a Contact form
(count think of another way to say that), if so you could use the Field
Chooser and drag the Contact field to a Column heading, this will then show
the Contacts that are linked.

I can filter the view by category but it brings up users who have more than
one category. So if i open a contact, then click on the category button, and
select two categories, when I do a filter by that specific category it brings
up all contacts that have that category whether or not they have other
categories selected. I need to be able to find those contacts that ONLY have
a specific selected and nothing else. I'm not sure how else to describe
this problem.

No, it will always show the items with other categories too - unless you use
the Query Builder (SQL will work too, but you need to write the query
yourself) and create ANDs to remove the other categories.
