How to upgrade from windows 98 to newer edition?

Upgrade to which version? To Windows 98SE? Or what? You posted to a
Windows 2000 group so I assume you want to upgrade to Windows 2000?
Don't. Do a clean install instead. Upgrades from Windows 98 to Windows
2000 are less than spectacular to say the least! Such upgrades are
doomed to fail later on!

Yes, John John, I know you are right about them dooming later and I can
accept that for now. However the real prob for me is I am tring to downlaod a
rhaposidy music thing and it keeps telling me I only have the 98 windows
version when I know this machine is or can be set with windows me 2000. How
do I do a clean install?
