how to take a pic of desktop

ive searched but i cant find how to take a desktop picture. as in- im looking
at something on my screen and i press a button and it takes an immediate
picture of my whole desktop, start bar and all, then sends the pic to a
folder for me to look at later. i know this can be done becuase ive seen the
end result everynow and then, i just dont know how. im on windows xp. can
anybody help me with me little problem?

Press your "Print Screen" key.

That copies the screenshot to your
Windows Clipboard.

Now...open Windows Paint or any other image
editor and go to...Edit / Paste. Now you can
save the file in the folder of your choice.

BTW, Yves suggested the following freebie for
capturing screen shots...it works very well. I have
it set so all I have to do is:

1) Press...PrintScreen...
2) Drag a box around the content I wish to save...
3) Press enter...
The shot is immediately saved as a .jpg in a
folder of my choice.
