How to stop Windows Update from prompting for a particular update?

Chris

Is there any way to stop the Windows Update site from constantly prompting
me to install the 811493 update?

I can't install this update as it crashes my PC (and I don't need it
anyway), but I cannot now make use the automatic update feature as it
keeps wanting to install this particular update.

Hey Chris,

To Turn off the Automatic Update Service, follow the steps below:

1. Right click on My Computer and choose Properties.

2. A window would pop up and click the Automatic Updates Tab. When there un
tick "Keep my computer up to date......."

That would stop you from receivng the message to update the 811493 update.

To check for Windows updates, go to Start > Windows Update. I find it easier
and faster like that.

Use the Kelly's fix only if you have already installed the update. This fix
adds the entry in registry (So that the OS knows that update is installed).
so, install the hotfix first and use the vbs script.

Thanks for the response, but the problem is that I want to have Automatic
Updates enabled, but not have it constantly trying to download 811493.

I know I can disable Automatic Updates and then check for updates
manually, but that is not what I wanted to do.

Chris

How long has it been since you last tried to install this update? When it
was first released, there were problems, but it has been updated since then
and re-released.
