How to stop Install Wizard for absent devices

M

Mobius

After reinstalling Windows XP Pro SP 3 on a Toshiba laptop, the Hardware
Install Wizard pops up after every boot to install the floppy drive
controller, the serial port, and an "Unknown device".

All these are not present on this unit. In fact the BIOS has no entry for
any of these devices!

The Windows install was followed by all device drivers install from the
model's website.

The install itself went flawlessly and the laptop works perfectly otherwise.

Regards and TIA for any insights.

The Chipset Install Utility was run first right after the OS install and the
system rebooted before installing the other drivers.

Thanks - did that. And it did stop the wizard from staring every boot!
The devices still show in device manager with a red cross sign over it,
though.
Regards and thanks again.
