How to shift the bullet?

I have a bulleted list. Below, I need to put another one, indented a level
further. When I press the Tab key the text shifts alright, but the bullet
stays at left margin. On the ruler there are only 2 markers and changing
their position only changes the text position. Right now I have copy/pasted a
text placeholder and manually indented it to simulate what I need, but what
is the solution?

Look at the indent markers on the placeholder on the slide master. Are they
in the proper position?

Also, make sure you haven't hit the space bar before pressing Tab to demote
the level. Pressing tab anywhere but right at the start of the line acutally
inserts a tab as opposed to demoting the text. Or, instead of using tab, use
the Demote button on the toolbar. That can be used anywhere in the text.
