How to setup a LAN avoiding intruders entering the shared folders?

I heve a small 3 computers LAN one of the has
internet...they share inet, printers and files using this
LAN.

BUT...i'm not sure if the systems are secure of having
ATTACKS from the internet...

Do you know some special configuration i have to do??

Firewall? Latest service packs? Virus program?

Basic network security starts with these.
