how to set a password

I need to set a password for my computer to get to the welcome screen. my son
has found the way to go into account users and switch his password, so that
he can log in when he is not supposed to. so I need to know how to set a
password that when you log off and turn the pc back on, it asks for a
password to get to the welcome screen. can anyone help?

Control Panel>User Accounts>Change an Account.
