How to save Outlook address book to import to another Outlook2000

I bought a new hard drive and installed Outlook 2000. I want to take my
address book and inbox from my old haard drive Outlook 2000 and put it into
Outlook 2000 on the new hard drive so I don't have to key it all in again.

Help!

On the old machine, close Outlook. Copy your pst file to a CD, or if the
machines are networked use that. On the new machine, paste the old pst file
somewhere. DO NOT OVERWRITE THE EXISTING PST FILE. Open Outlook, go to
File-Open-Outlook data File. Navigate to where you pasted the file. Drag
the contacts in the old contacts folder to the new contacts folder.

to email me remove the obvious!
This did not work.

I did get the .pst files copied and onto my new desktop for easy access.

However, they would not open in file -- open -- (personal folders file) pst
files, which is what i got when I clicked on file -- open ....

When I did try to drag the pst files directly from the desktop to the
Personal Folders icon in Outlook 2000 I got the old hour glass for a long
time. After a whiule I hit the CTL_ALT_DEL and saw that it was "not
responding"

So, I'm still not able to make the transfer of the Outlook address book to
the new hard drive. Still need help. Thanks.

So what DID happen? Did you remove the read-only attribute from the file if
you transferred it by CD?

That's not how you add a PST to Outlook. What you were doing with that move
was creating a message in Outlook whose body contained the PST. A sizable
PST would make Outlook appear to be unresponsive.
So, I'm still not able to make the transfer of the Outlook address
book to the new hard drive.

Much depends on whether you were uing Outlook in Internet Mail Only mode or
Corporate/Workgroup mode. The former uses the Windows Address Book for
contacts and the latter used the built-in Outlook Contacts folder. What
mode is it in?

I have now recopied the pst file from my old hard drive. The name of the
file is: outlook and it a pst file.

When I click File > Open > I get the option Personal Folders File (.pst)

When I click it up comes the Open Personal Folders box.

I click on the outlook pst file that I backed up from the old hard drive.
If I single click it so that it is highlighted and then click OK the it takes
me to Personal Folders -- Microsoft Outlook.

That's all that happens and I'm really frustrated and confused at this point.

And YES, the READ ONLY is unclicked in the Outlook.past file I copied from
the old hard drive.

I am working wiht Outlook 2000 if that makes any difference.

As for Outlook in Internet Mail Only mode or Corporate/Workgroup mode, I am
not sure. But this is a home computer. I can check but I need to know what
to look for.

Thanks for any help that comes my way.

Naturally. What did you expect? You've just opened the PST you were trying
to open.

What do you WANT to happen?
