HOW TO RETRIEVE EMAILS CONTACTS FROM WIN 2000 TO XP

I have upgraded from win 2000 to win XP I may now be having regrets as I am
unable to get access to all my emails and contacts that are stored in win
2000. Is there a way that I can retrieve and overcome this huge hurdle.

I have put Outlook Software (NOT OUTLOOK EXPRESS) on win XP which has
started from new, every time I go into my now second drive and click onto
Outlook it reverts to the new Outlook I have installed. Can you help me to
get all my emails and contacts back. Many thanks.

Kind regards

All of your Outlook data (including your address book which is called Contacts)
is contained in one file, usually named outlook.pst. If you search using *.pst,
you may also find archive.pst, which is where the content of user designated
folders are archived. You may have to allow hidden files to be shown via Folder
Options to find these files.

For non-networked stations the most common transfer can be made by burning a
copy of the pst file(s) to a CD-R or CD-RW disc, and then opening the file in
the other system. Be sure to clear the read-only attribute of the pst files, as
required.

See this article for some more detailed info:

As an alternative, you may want to look into Windows XP's built-in data transfer
utility. See this article for more info:

Dear SN

Sorry for the long delay in replying back to your email with the answer. I
have only just sorted my pc after a long time being without. Many thanks
your answer was spot on thanks to you I have now retreived all my data.
However, I now have the problem of sending and receiving emails. I have
checked and doubled checked my pop & smpt etc, when I click onto "send and
receive" it comes up `receiving 1 of 318 emails' nothing happens it just
hangs and slows the whole system down.

Can you help me on this also.

Many thanks

Try the Inbox Repair Tool. If it's not in your start menu programs listing,
search for the scanpst.exe file and run it. Good idea to make a shortcut to it
for future ease-of-use.

If still no joy, you may want to set up a test procedure using Outlook Express
with the option to leave a copy on the server.

If OE can't pull them down then you should contact your ISP for help.

If OE does pull them down, start another thread in this NG with an appropriate
subject. Also mention the version of Outlook you're using and be sure that it is
up-to-date with all of the latest patches.

Good luck.

I am experiencing long delays in opening files, saving files, inserting
pictures, etc in all Office apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). It will
go into 'not responding' mode, then finally chuen through to the next step in
locating the folder.

Anyone else having this problem?
