How to Replace missing Files??

S

Sobhan

The NTVDM system is not working on my Windows XP OS. The
reason is the ntio.sys file is missing. I want to know
how can I replace the missing file? Does Microsoft have a
site where you can find missing dlls and system files? I
have the XP Installation CD but I dont know how to
replace the file without completely re-installing XP.
I'll appreciate your help.

Cheers

I'm not 100% sure, but most MS products have
a 'repair' option instead of a complete re-install.

I would try and find that on the installation disk.

Hi Sobhan,

Start/run msconfig, click on "expand file" (general tab)

File to expand: ntio.sys
From: X:\I386
To: C:\Windows\system32

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386. If so, change the
"from" line accordingly. This assumes a default installation to C:\Windows.
If your installation is in a different folder, such as C:\Winnt, change the
"To" path accordingly. Reboot when finished.
