From System Properties [press WinKey+Pause/Break]> Select System Restore
tab> disable System Restore.
Reboot and repeat procedure to enable System Restore.
You should now be able to create a new restore point.

Hi Adi,

Try running System Restore from the command prompt.
http://home.earthlink.net/~mvp_bert/html/tips.html#SRFromPormpt

If that doesn't work I would suggest following these steps.

Before doing anything else, try scanning for and removing spyware. It's been known to cause all sorts of problems.

If you don't already have them following programs, download, install, update, and run them to check for and remove spyware. You might also consider some commercial spyware remover programs. You need more than one because there is no universal list of spyware so none of the available programs remove everything.

When I attempt System Restore my PC appears to go through the process
closes down, reboots and then gives me the message 'cannot restore
select another restore point' (or words to that effect). Of cours
when I do this I get the same message. I can set a restore point on
day and then attempt to restore to that point the next but with n
success. Advice please? :crybaby

Sounds like good advice.... did Blaster worm have the same effect...

Think I'd be tempted to scan in safe mode and try Check Disc scan fo
file error's (in hard drive properties), doing these things firs
sound's logical to me

Any clues in event viewer Application and System log files in Admi
tools.?? Any errors logged just click on the error log and ope
properties

Hi Tom,

The majority of the time this is caused by a corrupt restore point.
Turning System Restore off then on again will purges all existing
restore points, and creates one new one.

Try running System Restore from Safe Mode.
Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to
start your computer in Safe Mode.

Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account
that has administrator credentials.
In Safe Mode type or paste the following command in the Start - Run box
then press Enter.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

There are also other possibilities that can cause this to happen. The
following pages have some troubleshooting steps to take.

Hi Tom,

This would indicate that there's a application running in normal mode
that is interfering with System Restore. Performing a clean boot can
help narrow down the search. Are there any Norton 2006 application
running on the system?
