how to remove .tmp directories

Windows 2000 SBS server.

I can see a directory named .tmp and I can not remove it.

I guess that someone did run fxp or something like that one the box, it
might have been compromised.

the directory is a sub direcotry of an application.
The sub directory does have multiple sub directory going several layers deep
before I find some files.

Any suggestions on how to remove it?

Reboot into Directory Services Mode (F8) and remove that way.
