How to remove Outlook Personal Folders Backup addin manually?

Outlook Personal Folders Backup addin (XP/2002 or 2003 version) was
installed under a user profile that has been removed on a Windows XP Pro
system. Now there is no entry in Add/Remove Programs to remove it. When
trying to install again on the same system for a new user, it tells us to
uninstall the previous installation first.

I found one entry in the registry related to this addin that also had the
previous user info and delete it. I also found one file related to this
addin, outbak.dll . I changed the name to outbak.old. I then tried to
install the addin again, but it still tells me I need to uninstall the
previous version.

Does anybody know what else we can try?

Thanks, stevej

Try removing it from the Addin Manager in Outlook. Tools, Options, Other,
Advanced Options.

Thanks Mary. I had already looked there, but the Addin was not listed. See my
response to Milly's post.

Thanks Milly. I found this same article (ID 810932) late yesterday after I
posted my issue. It still does not have the manual uninstall information, but
"Method 2" (installing the pfbackup.msi file versus running the
pfbackup.exe file) in the article did work for me as far as being able to
install the addin. I even istalled it under two different user profiles,
which I have not been able to do before by running the .exe file.

FYI, in "Method 1" there was no "PF Backup" checkbox in the Com Add-Ins for
the workstation. That was part of the problem. Somewhere on the system
(registry?) was some left over info about the previous install. Since that
users profile was deleted before the backup add-in was uninstalled, it did
not show up in Add/Remove Programs or anywhere esle for any other user that
was logged on.

I would like to see an article with more detail about the best way to
install this on a system with multiple user profiles and how to manually
uninstall all references to the add-in for situations like ours (user profile
deleted, but add-in not uninstalled first).

When I originally started using this add-in, I would install it as
administrator on the system assuming it would be installed/added to Outlook
for the user when they logged in, but it did not. I then just installed it
when the user was logged in. It would only be in the Add/Remove Programs for
that user. The article describing the issue as "an incomplete installation"
is not really helping. That statement implies that the add-in does not have
limitations or a bug. It would be better if we were just told it must be
installed for each user (Method 2), either "by design" or because of a bug.

Thanks again, stevej
