How to remove an Outlook Address sub-book?

Outlook 2003, Internet installation (MAPI)

I went to Tools | E-Mail Accounts | View or Change existing Address book,
and clicked on Edit an existing book. The next screen showed only two
address books, Outlook and Personal.

When I click on the little book icon on my Outlook app, the Address Book
opens up, wiht the default list of names from the Contacts list. If I click
the down-arrow in the "Show Names from the " box, I get a list of the
different distribution lists I've made for my monthly newsletter. These
distribution lists are all empty, because I delete them after I send out the
newsletter, and regerate the list a month later when I send it out again.

I can't find where to delete the names of the empty lists.

Also, are about a thousands email addresses in each list. Is there some
kind of maintenance I need to do to clean up all these deleted names?

Thank you

I'm not sure what you means by "DL" since a true DL would not be on the
address book list - so I am assuming you are making a new outlook contacts
folder for each issue. If so, check out the options in the Tools, options
menu when you have the address book open.

I'd use categories or a separate folder for the contacts you are sending
to - and rather than making a new contacts folder for each issue, add and
remove contacts from the one folder.

When I open Tools | Options, I see three boxes:
One is to set the display order for the folders in the main Address Book
form.
The second box allows me to choose which folder to put my personal addresses
in. I don't see an option to add or delete folders
The third box gives me the option to select the order the folders will be
checked when I send mail. All I can do is add or remove existing folders
from the sort list, but I don't see an option to create or delete a folder.

Yeah, I figured that out, but I need to delete these empty folders first!

You create or delete the folder in Outlook's main window (File>New>Folder or
select folder, click or press Delete). After creating a contacts folder,
enable it as an address book and it will then appear in the list you were
viewing.
