Hello,

I once had an printer share out from an Windows 2003 Server, the HP printer
was working, in XP, 2000 and NT 4.0 connecting to it. For an unknown reason
it is gone!. So I set it up again with the drivers. Try and test it, it is
OK in XP and 2000 but not Windows 4.0 WKS. In NT 4.0 it just feed blank
paper. I try and re-install the printer driver for 4.0 it ask me do I want
to replace and I had answer Yes. So things happen during the test. What
should I do now? I also had try removing the whole printer from the server
then installing it again, same happen.

Thank,

Hi

do you have the right type of driver?
NT4 works just with level2 drivers. W3K just installs Level3 drivers
unless you change the policy to accept also level2 drivers.

Printer Model is HP DeskJet 970cxi connected to an HP JetDirect 500.

I had it working once, but not now!

Print Server OS is 2003 Server.

I had installed the XP/2000 Driver first, but in the additional driver it
showed that I had already installed the Windows NT 4.0 driver too.

I try clicking new driver and select to replace with path of Window NT 4.0
driver. Both way don’t work!

The printing doesn’t not work in NT workstation (the output is a blank
page), but it is ok from the server with test page.

What should I do to remove or replace the Windows NT driver!

Thank a lot,

What make and model of printer?

Did you install the NT 4 driver as an "Additional Driver" (on the printer's
Sharing tab) or some other way?

You need to have a "compatible" set of drivers. Did you obtain a current
"compatible" set of drivers from the manufacturer's web site?

See if the information at

helps at all.

On the Windows 2003 server, you can remove/replace the NT 4 driver using the
Printers and Faxes folder.

1. open the Printers and Faxes folder
2. click File, Server Properties
3. select the Drivers tab
4. select the driver for the printer model you are interested in (e.g. HP
DeskJet 970cxi) where the "Version" column shows "Windows NT4.0 or 2000"
5. click "Remove" or "Replace".

On the NT 4.0 workstation, unfortunately, life is not so simple.
see http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm; see steps 6, 7
and 11-13. You need to restart the NT 4 workstation for the changes to take
effect.

I suggest removing the printer from the NT 4 workstation, clean up the
drivers on it as suggested above, remove/replace the NT 4.0 driver on the
2003 server. Also, you will need to have a "compatible set" of drivers of
the different versions (i.e. NT4.0, Windows 2003).

I don't know about the 970cxi specifically, but quite a few of the drivers
for ink jet printers (including some from HP) refuse to add themselves as
"Additional Drivers". In that is the case for the 970 cxi, see
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/NetPrinterNoPP.htm.
