I need to wipe my hard drives and do a fresh install of XP Home. I tried to do this with the XP cd and got a second install of XP on my C: drive. Here's what I want to do, wipe my, D: (storage) drive, and also wipe my C: (OS) drive of both installs of XP as well as anything that my daughter saved there, and reinstall XP to the C: drive. Can anyone tell me how to do this

Thanking you in advance

The install CD contains the utilities to delete and create partitions. When
you get to the screen asking you which partition to select, you can instead
choose to delete the partition, create a new partition, and then tell it to
do a full format.

FIRST Note: It is important to visit the web site of the manufacturer of
your computer to
obtain any special XP drivers. Some things may need to be updated before the
install.

Clean Installation
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Disconnect network/modem cable.

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary to
partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow Windows XP
to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP Home CD in the CD Drive and reboot your
computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the
existing
partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

6. After installing Windows XP, be sure and visit the support website of
the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any available
Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter and audio drivers.

Van, thanks for the response, but, I thought I did that. Unfortunately, I think I need the more "hand-holding" type of instructions on this one. And again thanks!

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of
the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of
boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

For the detailed articles to hand-hold you through, and for future
reference, take a stab at searching http://support.microsoft.com/ to find
related information. Under the advanced search, look on "format partition
install CD" (all words) for Windows XP. You will find the following

Here's the best part, the BIOS only lists the ATPI CD-ROM as a boot choice of my two optical drives (one cd-rom and one cd-rw) and for some reason, my CD-ROM drive is inop atm, tray opens and closes, activity light lights briefly, but nothing, if you try to click on the drive from "My Computer" it asks you to insert a disc into the drive. Aside from swaping drive cables, any work-around?
