When I run Outlook 2003 on my dell M1210 notebook, the CPU usage increase and
slower down other services. The cpu given spike usage in every 1-2 seconds.
How to resolve this and what is the cause of it?

How often are you polling for new mail and do you have your antivirus set to
scan incoming/outgoing mail? Do you have any add ins or COMs installed? Any
synching software or fax software?

I am having a simliar problem with a dell M1710. I have windows vista on
here and installed office 2003 pro. There is no Anti virus or add-ins on
this box. No synch software either. When outlook is opened the cpu spikes
ever 6 seconds making the use of outlook impossible. I thought maybe vista
and office 2003 didn't play well together and used it as excuse or reason to
buy office 2007 ultimate. But I still have the same problem when outlook
2007 is opened. I have tried running outlook in Win XP SP2 compatability
mode but still no help. Any thoughts?

Automatic send/receive set at every 5 minutes. I'm using Symantec antivirus
but no setting for scan incoming/outgoing mail. No sync software and this
only happen when Outlook running. I do have Viso and AutoCad but it does not
take CPU usage as high and continues like outlook.

Do you commonly work offline? If so, delete your .ost file (it's hidden so
you'll have to search hidden files and folders). The file will recreate when
you open Outlook.

Also, please check to see if you're using Word as your email editor. If you
are, turn it off and see if this improves performance.
