How to recover from encrypted data

G

Gillies

Hi,

Using XP Pro SP2, I want to configure encryption for my confidential data,
being part of a small Win2k domain. Question is how can I recover my
encrypted data from a disaster (for instance hd failure or crash from the
domain controler) ?

Also without being part of a domain, how to recover encrypted data ? (aka a
new XP installation and restoring encrypted data?)

TIA

You are right to be wary of XP's encryption (EFS) which some have
nicknamed "the delayed Recycle Bin". Here are links with information
about EFS, as well as links to some third-party software that may be
better. I have not used any of the third-party encryption software, but
MVP Torgeir Bakken has said that his company uses SafeGuard Easy and is
pleased with it.
