How to Protect a Word Document

Last year my group at work started using an electronic vacation calendar
created from the word document "2008 calendar (Basic design)" from the
Microsoft Office templates. The calendar was saved in web layout view so the
cell boxes would expand as multiple employees entered their names into
particular days. How can I protect the calendar from style and format changes
while allowing for data entry of employee names? Our 2008 calendar is almost
unusable because of changes made over the year. If it is not possible to do
exactly what I want, please suggest other options. Thanks.

version of Word? In Word 2003, you can freeze a selection of styles, so
that users may not apply any kind of different style formatting, nor
direct formatting.
