How to prevent Internet Explorer from opening a jpg?

I use hyperlinks in Access to view JPGs. I just set up a new XP system. Now,
on the new system, clicking on the same hyperlinks now causes Internet
Explorer to open as a JPG viewer. I have JPG file associations set to
Irfanview in Windows Explorer, and Irfanview opens all JPGs except those
hyperlinked in Access. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Irfanview, but IE
persists in opening my JPG hyperlinks. Does anyone know how stop IE from
opening JPGs?

Try and go to Windows Explorer\Tool\Folder Options\File Types and scroll
down to .jpg and change the association to your desired viewer

I use hyperlinks

Use shortcuts instead? Hyperlinks are and should be associated with the
default browser. The folks in the Excel newsgroups should be able to help
you with this.

As mentioned, file associations are set correctly, and work correctly
elsewhere. Operating system is 100% current. No viruses. No spyware.
Hyperlinks work perfectly on my other Win2K machines.

Thanks, but hyperlinks are used in the database for distinct purposes
(+15,000 images, links used in .asp code, etc.) so changing them is not a
good option. Everything works fine on all my Win2K machines. Are you implying
that that we cannot make Internet Explorer stop opening JPGs in XP? (All
systems patches current, no viruses, no spyware.) Thanks.

You probably need to post this to a Microsoft Access related
newsgroup.

Good luck

No, not implying that but something has gone amok between the association
for your preferred JPG viewer and Excel using that preference when
executing the URLs. The Excel newsgroups should be able to help you with
this.
