How to prevent history deletion ?

P

Paul Rubin

Hi all, I saw a posting about preventing the deletion of IE6 History.
However when I add this key to the registry, and then log in as one of
the users, I am still able to delete the history!

Any ideas?
Sincerely,
Paul Rubin

Here is the previous posting:
You can create the following Registry restriction:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Control
Panel]
"History"=dword:00000001

--
Log on as each user and apply the above.
The below affects *all* users (log on as Administrator)
--
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Control
Panel]
"History"=dword:00000001

Did you logon as each user and apply it or else apply it to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE?

Thank you Frank, it was the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE version that didn't
work. I later tried the HKEY_CURRENT_USER version, and that one works
fine. The only difficulty is that the user for which I want to prevent
deletion of the history is a Power User, so I had to first promote
them to administrator, then log in as that user, apply the registry
entry, then log out, log in as another administrator, and then demote
them back to Power User.
