How to position text absolutely on the page?

How do I position the curser to start typing at a precise positio
within the page (like WordPerfect used to). I am wanting to add inpu
codes into a template at the bottom - irrespective of how much tex
gets typed above. The codes won't go into a box . . .argggg, and
have been overlaying the boxes to emulate the form the template wil
replace.

Hi Paulus,

Try inserting a 1-row table the full width of the margins at the top of the
page and format that row's height to the exact required size. Any amount of
text typed into that cell will have no effect on where the text below
starts.
