How to password protect a subweb...I get stuck

Hi, I'm using yahoo geocities to host my site. Supposedly they support
extensions. I have made a subweb...no problem there and it is uploaded to the
host.

Then, per http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825451
direction for How to set up a restricted-access Web by using FrontPage 2003,
I begin with:
Method 1: Use FrontPage 2003 to Configure Unique Permissions from the Subsite
1. Start FrontPage 2003 and then open your subsite.
2. Click Tools, point to Server, and then click Permissions. But at this
point server is greyed out. I don't understand that, so i try method 2 as
described in the microsoft article:

Start FrontPage 2003 and then open your subsite.
2. Click Tools, point to Server, and then click Permissions.
at this point it asks for my username and password...but here is where the
trouble begins, that opens a web page:
http://mysite/mysubsite/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmcgi.exe which is blank. I
never get to a Permissions Administration page.

I am confident I am doing something dumb....any help you could offer would
be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dave

They may support fp extensions but not allow you to set permissions.
If you sucessfully created a subweb, and if you are able to sucessfully open the subweb "live" (on the server) and the Server is 'grayed out' then the host does not allow you to do this.

I 'think' yahoo is linux/unix...maybe they have a user admin control panel for you to use.

It is only available via opening the remote FP web, and ONLY if the host
allows it. Many don't. Check with them.

Hi, Thanks for the quick response. I can open the subweb live on the server
at yahoo and the server option isn't greyed out. when i try that is says
http://mysite/mysubsite/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmcgi.exe ..... which is blank.

If I go to server/permissions i get a box from microsoft frontpage bascially
saying you don't have permission to do this operation. ask your website admin
to change your permision to allow.

I have gone to the yahoo site and made myself a subauthor...so I used their
user admin control panal. I must be doing something very simple and dumb..I
seem very close. Any other thoughts? Thanks

So, did you contact the web site admin to ask them?
